Douglas Wayne Aldridge


COOKSON — Douglas Wayne Aldridge, of Warner, was born July 19, 1948, in Poteau and passed away on April 17, in Gore.

Aldridge is survived by two sons and one daughter: Roy Edward Aldridge of Poteau; Andrew Wayne Aldridge and wife Susan of Warner; and Amy Aldridge Sanford and husband Gene of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Tahlequah.

Other survivors include grandson, Justin of Warner; granddaughter, Sherilynn and husband Matt Crossland of Warner; great-grandson, Jayme Crossland; mother, Dorothy Aldridge, formerly of Muskogee and Bokoshe; brothers, Danny Aldridge of Columbia, Mo. and Brian Pickering of Wister; aunt, Bernice Weaver of Panama, Okla.; uncle, Carl Swenson of Okay; special cousin, Bobby Swenson and wife Rita of Okay; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Aldridge was preceded in death by Patty Coleman Aldridge Campbell, mother of Andrew and Amy; father, Oren Aldridge; aunts, Lois Ritter and Lavon Swenson; uncles, Melford Weaver, Floyd Sanders, and Orlen Ritter; and grandparents, Roy and Grace Monks.

Aldridge lived in Warner for the past 25 years and cherished residing next door to his son Andrew on Warner Mountain. He enjoyed fishing, laughing, telling stories, watching movies, driving his classic Chevy truck, eating at the Warner Senior Center, playing checkers and dominoes, and bragging about his kids. He was a kind and generous man who took care of stray cats and people who were down on their luck.

He loved his Aunt Lois’ pies and his mom’s rolls and lived for Thanksgiving gatherings and Monks’ family reunions. He was a simple man with a great big heart and his friends and family will miss him deeply.

Aldridge was buried in Warner Memorial Cemetery on April 22.

A memorial service hosted by Amy Aldridge Sanford will take place on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Tenkiller Baptist Assembly in Cookson, with Kerry D. White presiding and Kristopher and Ranee Copeland providing music.
