Ray Lynn Barnes


TAHLEQUAH — PRYOR – Funeral services for Ray Lynn Barnes, 50, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the Exciting Southeast Baptist Church, Pryor, with Rob Pierce and Marty Brock officiating.

Pallbearers will be Glen Clark, Josh Gayer, Roger Cole, Jeff Travis, Jeff Stafford, Eric Troyer, Denny Hokit, and George Carr. Honorary pallbearers are Short McFarland, Fred McCoy, David Cole, Jim Petty, and Bill Tomasik.

Interment will follow in the Barnes Family Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Green Country Funeral Home.

Ray was born in Wheat Ridge, Colo., on June 16, 1963, to Thelbert and Wanda (McAllister) Barnes. He passed away on Aug. 11, 2013, in Tahlequah.

A lifelong resident of Cherokee County, Ray grew up in the Moody area. He attended Lowrey School through the eighth grade, then Tahlequah High School, graduating in 1981.

On May 29, 1982, he married Kathy Jarrell in Peggs.

Ray had worked as a pipeliner and loved working on “The Place,” rodeos, and bull riding.

He loved kids and was a youth camp sponsor, where he had a positive impact on many lives. Ray loved Jesus and was a member of the Exciting Southeast Baptist Church in Pryor.

He loved his family and had a special relationship with his granddaughter, Grandpa was her hero.

Ray is preceded in death by his son, Derek; grandmother, Christine Barnes Conrad; uncle, Pete Barnes, and brother-in-law Timothy Chance.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of the home; daughter Tiffany McCarter and husband Blake, of Tahlequah; granddaughter, Raylee McCarter; parents, Thelbert and Wanda Barnes, of Tahlequah; brothers Wayne Barnes and wife Jennifer, and James Barnes and wife Machele; sisters Rhonda Teague and husband Rob, and Donnna Pierce and husband Rob; mother- and father-in-law, Linda and Lynn Jarrell of Hulbert; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rusty and Tinker Lamons, Greg and Glenda Cobb, Kim Chance, and Shelly and Ronnie Robbins all of Tahlequah; 19 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
