TAHLEQUAH — Pauline Mathias, Tahlequah resident, died Monday, March 3. She was 87 years of age.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in the GAR Cemetery in Miami under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Pauline was born February 26, 1927, in Dixon, Mo., the daughter of Dewey and Elsie (Shelton) Tremain. She graduated from high school in Miami in 1944 and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 1949.

Mrs. Mathias was a school teacher for 33 years until her retirement in 1989 from the Shawnee Heights School District 450 in Tecumseh, Kan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kan.

Survivors include her son, Thomas K. Clark and wife Carol; two daughters, Mary Bigler and husband Garth, and Sheila Johnsrud; four grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2007; and one daughter; Kathy Johnson.
