TAHLEQUAH — A longtime resident of Muskogee and founder of Timothy Baptist Church, G.A. went to be with our dear Lord and savior on Jan. 10, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary B. James; parents, Alfred H. and Vertie C. James; brothers, Houston and Jimmy James; daughter-in-law, Faye Ashwood James; and grandson, Edward Earle Peyton.

Born Dec. 21, 1922, in the community of Tahlequah, Cherokee County, G.A. was one of five children. He married his true love, Mary Belle James, in Tahlequah, in 1940. He and Mary had almost 70 years together before her passing. The Lord blessed them with three loving children: Daughter Barbara J. Giles of Norman, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry R. and Debbie James of Muskogee, and daughter, Jeanette Morgan of Tulsa.

G.A. is survived by his children and eight loving grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great-grandchildren and their spouses, and three great-great-grandchildren who will miss their Papa/Papall dearly. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Luedeen James of Florida, his sister and brother-in-law, Elsie Marie and Buddy Stubbs of Fort Gibson, his sister-in-law, Bonnie (Carrah) James of Arkansas, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Brother James was a Southern Baptist minister in the state of Oklahoma for over 70 years. He pastored in Hulbert, Crescent Valley, Webbers Falls, Muskogee, and Wagoner. He lived what he preached and always had a song to sing. Music was a James family heritage, and G.A. had a great love for gospel music. Many friends and family members will remember the singing and praying G.A. initiated before allowing them to leave his home.

He was accomplished in many things. He built his homes and a few churches, and was known as a mechanic, as well as a carpenter. Above all, he was a dedicated servant of God. G.A. was quick to tell others about Jesus, and ready to help anyone in need. He will be missed by many relatives, friends and neighbors.

Special thanks go out to those attending to G.A.’s needs while in the Eastgate Village Health Care Center in Muskogee.

Services will be held at Timothy Baptist Church at 11 a.m.,  Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery, but there will not be a graveside service.

Public viewing will be held at Bradley Funeral Home in Muskogee from 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13; and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.bradleyfuneralservice.com.
