Emma Jean Van Buskirk


TAHLEQUAH — Funeral services for Emma jean Van Buskirk will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Ford Community Center with David Scott officiating. Visitation is being held on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Bill Batt Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Emma Jean Van Buskirk was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Rocky Ford, Okla., the daughter of Johnny and Nancy (Tail) Rackliff. She spent her entire life time in the Rocky Ford community.

She married Henry Hershel Van Buskirk on Nov. 1, 1944, in Tahlequah, Okla.. Together they raised six children and enjoyed years of companionship together. Emma was a homemaker, pure and simple! Whether you knew her as “Mom” or “Granny Mom,” you were always welcome at Emma’s table.

Emma was gifted at sewing, crocheting and reading novels. Any chance Emma had to get together with her family and share a laugh or a sandwich was just fine with Emma. She enjoyed people who found the time to sit and speak Cherokee with her.

Emma was called home from her labors on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in Tulsa, Okla. with her loved ones by her side. She was 86 years old. Emma will be greatly missed by all.

Emma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; and one son, Fred Van Buskirk.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children, Linda and husband Mike Clinton of Rocky Ford, Russell and Marcella Van Buskirk of Oaks, Bonnie Johnson of Rocky Ford, Donna Van Buskirk of Rocky Ford, and Perry and wife Kathy Van Buskirk of Moodys. Emma leaves 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, to appreciate her legacy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
