Marion Loyal Bolding


TAHLEQUAH — Services for Marion Loyal Bolding are 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Tahlequah First United Methodist Church,with Shana Dry, education ministry director, and Rev. James Graham.

Serving as pallbearers are Duffy Dry, Jerry Gourd, Tom Heaton, David Morrison, Lloyd Moden and Chuck Lester. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Muskogee Police Department, Glenn Haddock, Charles Crawford, John Barnes and Kenny Adams.

Interment will follow in the Hendricks Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.

Marion Loyal Bolding was born Sept. 19, 1948, in Tahlequah, to Willard Bolding and Louise (Rooks) Bolding. He passed away on Nov. 11, 2013, in Fayetteville, Ark., at the age of 65.

Marion grew up in Tahlequah and attended Bagley Elementary and Tahlequah Public Schools. While growing up, he worked at the family service station on North Muskogee Avenue in Tahlequah.

Following graduation he began attending Northeastern State University.

Marion served in the U.S. Army and upon completion of his service time he returned to Northeastern completing his degree in criminal justice. In 1972, Marion married Melanie Hagerdon. In 1974, he began a 20-year career with the Muskogee Police Department. In 1982, Marion was presented with a Purple Heart and Medal of Honor for Distinguished Service after being shot in the line of duty while protecting a citizen. Following his retirement in 1994, he worked security at Muskogee Regional Medical Center for five years, and in 2008 he then retired to the family farm.

Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Louise Bolding.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie of the home; sons, Matt Bolding and wife Tiffany of Tulsa, and Mike Bolding and wife Mary Jane of Fayetteville, Ark.; grandchildren, Madison Bolding, Megan Bolding, and Ashley Bolding of Tulsa, and Merrick Bolding and Millie Bolding of Tulsa; sister in Christ, Bobbie Cobb; his uncle, Don and wife Lois Bolding; aunts, Barbara Howe, Wanda Shrum, Minnie Bolding and Louise Rooks; best friend Jerry Gourd, who was like a brother to him; as well as many dear friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the First United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Children’s Home in Tahlequah in memory of Marion L. Bolding.
