David McKinley Jones was born the son of Albert Q. and Violet (Burnett) Jones on Nov. 20, 1939, in Alsuma. He was joined by 17 brothers and sisters at home. He attended school in Alsuma, a suburb of present-day Tulsa.

He dated Donna Vern McKee, and on July 1, 1968, he married his sweetheart in Stilwell. This marriage was blessed with 45 years of happiness and eight children.

David worked hard to take care of his family. He worked a metal lathe operator, then for Jimmy Albert’s Plaster Company in Fort Smith, Ark., and finally as a health care provider for 20 years at the Cherokee County Nursing Center.

When he wasn’t working, David loved time spent fishing and camping in the great outdoors.

David was loving and kind-hearted, with a touch of mischief. Once on a camping trip with his family, he rolled over on his air mattress, produced a little bell, and began to ring it while calling out for “room service” to deliver his coffee. He worked in his flower beds and yard in the company of his two canine companions, “Little Breeches” and “Pretty Girl,” his Chihuahuas.

When the house was full of children, he established the famous line, “If those boys would only listen to me,” followed by his famous laugh. He never met a stranger and would talk with every person he met.

He rose early every morning and started the coffee pot. If you were staying at David’s house, you’d be up drinking coffee, too. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and all the rest of his family.

A Christian by faith, David was called home to his Lord and savior on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in Tahlequah, with his loved ones by his side. David was 73 years old. His family and friends will miss the morning cups of coffee and conversations with Dad.

David is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Those left to cherish David’s memory include his loving wife since 1968, Donna, of the home. He leaves his children, David Michael Jones and wife Brenda of Briggs, Vance Jones and wife Jessie of Tulsa, Virgil Lee and Judy Jones of Pawhuska, Beverly Glory and husband Johnnie of Welling, Stormy Jones and wife Donna of Welling, Steven Jones and wife Brenda of Peggs, Timothy Jones and wife Samantha of Peggs, and Donna Jones and Javier Marquez of Tahlequah. David’s legacy and love of life live on in his 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
