Linda Carlene Handle was born on Oct. 14, 1949, in Hulbert, the daughter of Carl Shade and Linda Rattling Gourd-Shade. She attended business college and obtained her certificate in the secretarial arts.

She married her husband, Nathaniel Joe “Earl” Handle in July of 1969 at Keener Baptist Church. This union was blessed with five children.

Linda had a zest for life. She enjoyed every moment spent with her family and it showed. Linda loved people and had the outgoing, bubbly personality to prove it. There were no strangers in Linda’s life, only friends she hadn’t met yet.

Once her family saw her pick up total strangers on Christmas and bring them home to dinner. Dinner at Linda’s house was a treat. She was good with the chicken and dumplings, and beans and frybread were a favorite.  Everyone was welcome at Linda’s table. She would use her spare time to do a little quilting or spend the evening with her friends, but it was her family that made her happiest.

Linda was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.

She adored her grandchildren and encouraged them in everything they tried.

She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, and her door was always open to all. She dedicated herself to making her home a welcome place for her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Linda was a member of the Keener Baptist Church and enjoyed any chance she got to be with her church family.

Her health began to fail and the Lord called Linda home from her labors on Oct. 26, 2013, in Keys, with all of her loving family by her side. Linda was 64 years old.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Anderson Shade; one great-granddaughter, Madison Handle; and her father and mother-in-law, Dick and Georgia Handle.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Earl of the home in Keys; and her five children, Sheila Moran of Tahlequah, Nathan and Lawanda Handle of Stilwell, Justin and Monica Handle of Tahlequah, Kyle and Lottie Handle of Tahlequah, and Cartayah and Colby Crossland of Tahlequah. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Heather and James Points of Boynton, Ashton and Charlie Houston of Muskogee, Courtney Philemon of Tahlequah, Robin Wilson of Iowa, Cassie Handle of Tahlequah, Tyler Handle of Lawrence, Kan., Kayla Handle of Tahlequah, Blake Handle of New York, Bridgette Handle of New York, Neshamah Newcomer of Pennsylvania, Harley Handle of Tahlequah, Blake Handle, Bethany Handle, Devin Handle, Jalen Handle, and Keiton Handle all of Stilwell, Serenity Crossland and Mason Crossland both of Tahlequah.
