Thomas Edward Vann


TAHLEQUAH — Services for Thomas Edward Vann will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Green Country Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Osage of First Indian Baptist Church officiating.

Viewing of the body will be available on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1  to 6 p.m., and Monday all day. Interment will take place at Thompson Cemetery.

Thomas Edward Vann was born on Jan. 7, 1955 in Tahlequah. He was the son of Mike and Lucinda Vann-Robbins. He attended school in Tahlequah and Stilwell, then attended college in southern California. He was blessed with one child, Justin Thomas Vann, in 1986, in Long Beach, Calif.

Thomas was a sharp-witted individual who traveled across the country throughout his years doing a wide variety of jobs; Coca-Cola truck driving, antique dealer and auctioneer, building pole barns, forklift driver, dishwasher, caregiver and other odd jobs to keep the lights on.

Thomas moved to California when he reached the age of 17 and remained there until he was 32 and migrated to his home state of Oklahoma. Tom was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Shelly Abernathy, his brother, Rick Vann and his mother, Lucinda Vann-Robbins.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving son Justin Thomas Vann and fiancé Cekuwe of Tahlequah; sisters, Luella Vann-Thornton and husband Bud of Banning, Calif., Christina Vann-Valliere and husband Jon of Pico-Rivera, Calif., Luanna Vann-Taylor and husband Ken of Anaheim, Calif., Gwen Goingsnake of Tahlequah, Bill Vann and wife Evelyn of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cecil James Robbins and wife Rita of Kansas, Okla.; and Uncle William “Sonny” Thompson and wife Patsy of Proctor. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Tom.”
