Yolanda Elizabeth (YoBeth) Whitworth


TAHLEQUAH — Yolanda Elizabeth (YoBeth) Whitworth, 85, passed away on March 23, 2013. She was born in Marlow and raised in Durant. She was nicknamed “Happy” as a child and her red hair and freckles made her a neighborhood favorite. She was deeply loved by her parents, Willa and Jim Penny, and her three brothers, William, James and Paul Leslie. She is survived by her older brother, William.

Beth met her husband Ralph as a teenager. She was by his side and loved him dearly throughout their 65 years of marriage.

She is survived by Ralph and their three children, Paul, Bruce and Janet; son-in-law, Marty; daughter-in-law, Julie; and her seven grandchildren.

Eryn, Nat, Oona, Blair, Isabella, Paloma and Sophia were cherished treasures in her life. Beth loved children and children loved her. She had that special kindness in her heart that is so rare.

Beth specialized in caretaking. Her life was marked by doing and caring for others.

A teacher by vocation, she was a living example of humility, kindness, tolerance and charity. Beth was also known as a fine cook, baker, gardener and lover of birds and the arts. Her path was filled with lives she touched. Her love will not soon be forgotten.

Memorial services are set for Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Feed My Sheep of Tahlequah. Mail checks to FUMC, 300 W. Delaware, Tahlequah, Okla. 74464, with Beth Whitworth/FMS in the memo line. This is a community project to feed the hungry in Tahlequah.
