Emma Lianne Cain, 58, died May 15, 2013, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Lianne was born Oct. 4, 1954, in Muskogee, to Clyde and Margaret Cain. She was the oldest of four daughters.
She was a graduate of Hulbert High School, 1972. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeastern State University.
She was named Teacher of the Year at Oktaha High School, 1996. She was named Teacher of the Year at Whitney Middle School and was a finalist for Tulsa Teacher of the Year, 2012. She was also selected as an Education Ambassador for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Lianne was an avid traveler and an accomplished writer having published many articles, stories, and books.
She is survived by her three children, Jeremy Holden and his spouse Debbie of Flower Mound, Texas, Mary Steadman and her spouse Shannon of Moore, and Samuel Holmes and his spouse Kia of Oktaha; her mother, Margaret Cain of Muskogee; her three sisters, Michelle Kirk and her husband Alan of Tulsa, Marissa Wiseley and her husband Scott of Muskogee, and Jennifer Sparks and her husband Paul of Fort Gibson; and her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Preston, BrenLee, Kam, Liam and Lennon.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Cain; her husband, Brian Cowan and her grandson Cohen Michael Steadman.
Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee on Tuesday, May 21, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
