Johnnie L. Carlile

TAHLEQUAH — Funeral services for Johnnie L. Carlile, 73, of Tahlequah will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at First Baptist Church, Tahlequah. Officiating will be Rev. George Marty Brock.

Pallbearers will be Glen Wheeler, Perry Jordan, Will Carlile, Clint Kelley, Bill Lamons, and Kenneth Thornton. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Cherokee County Cattlemen’s Association, The Log Store Coffee Crew, Tommy Lamons, Tommy Hix, Sam Lamons, Bill Nodine, Henry Walker, Cherokee County Farm Bureau Board, Morgan Whitmore, Alan Campbell, James Secratt, Steve Molloy, Ron Timmons, and Paul Roach.

Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.

Johnnie L. Carlile was born May 9, 1941, in Tahlequah, to Jackson Berry Carlile and Edna Jewell (Avant) Carlile. He passed away in Tahlequah, on Thursday, May 29.

Johnnie grew up in Tahlequah and attended Tahlequah schools. He graduated in 1959 from Tahlequah High School before entering Northeastern State University. Nov. 4, 1960, he married Barbara Jean Baker. Johnnie worked as a postman until he reached retirement. He then began to pursue cattle ranching. He received much joy working with his cattle and making the Cattlemen’s Association trips. He was a past board member of the Cher-okee County Cattlemen’s Association and Cherokee County Farm Bureau. Johnnie enjoyed watching and supporting his grandchildren compete in high school sports and rodeos.

Johnnie is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and his parents.

He is survived by his son, Jack Carlile and wife Lori of Tahlequah; and daughter, Sherri Kelley and husband Dennis also of Tahlequah; four grandchildren, Micaela Carlile, Will Carlile, Clint Kelley and Kate Kelley; sisters, Janice Randall and Judy Lowrey; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to Tahlequah High School football and basketball programs at P.O. Box 517, Tahlequah, OK 74465.
