Services for Ellen Goodall Marsellis, 95, of Hulbert were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with Aaron Wright officiating.
Ellen was born Sept. 1, 1917, In Hulbert, to her parents, Hugh and Olive (Smith) Goodall.
She grew up and attended school in Hulbert and was a member of the first graduating class of Hulbert High School. Ellen continued her education at Northeastern State University while beginning her career as a teacher in the Ray Community, west of Hulbert.
While working in a shipyard in Portland, Oregon during World War II, she fell in love with her boss, Robert E. Marsellis, and the two were later united in marriage, on Dec. 4, 1944.
Moving back to Oklahoma, they lived in Tulsa, where Ellen taught school and was among the first teachers who took part in the desegregation of Tulsa Public Schools.
They returned to the family farm west of Hulbert, where she retired from teaching at Hulbert Public Schools.
Ellen was a true matriarch who was an excellent quilter and seamstress, and loved to fish. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the big band music of Lawrence Welk and Glen Miller, and especially the company of her children and grandchildren. Surrounded by her family, she passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, March 17, 2013.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert E. ‘Bob’ Marsellis in April, 2005; a sister, Mildred Goodall; brother, Albert Goodall; and a nephew, Paul Weaver.
She is survived by her children, Jan Stauss of Hulbert, Lyle Marsellis and wife Mary Ella of Tulsa, and Doris Aldridge and husband Ellis of Wellston; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Kristian Smith, Lane Smith, Clifford Aldridge, Robert Aldridge, Rob Marsellis and Jimmy Snider. Honorary pallbearers are: Travis Rhodes, Gordon Gambill, Lee Stauss, Pete Caudle and David Smith.
