Vivian Ann Gunby

TAHLEQUAH — Services for Vivian Ann Gunby, age 71, will be held at noon, Saturday, May 4, at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah. Vivian was welcomed into heaven on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in Tahlequah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell and Helen Follis Jones; her husband and one true love, Russell Agnew Gunby; daughter, Paula Jo Gunby; son-in-law, Michael Blakely; brother, Harvey Jones; and her grand-daughter, Casey Blakely.

Vivian Ann Gunby was born March 3, 1942, in Kelso, Wash. After many years spent in an orphanage, Haskell and Helen Follis Jones adopted her and older brother Harvey, and she spent her teenage years in Welling. As a young woman, she worked as a licensed hairdresser in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Vivian was a devoted wife and homemaker, who as a young mother enjoyed sewing, homeopathic medicine, reading, cooking, hiking and bike riding. She and her husband owned and operated Tiny Okie Child Care Center for many years.

A beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and great-grandmother, Vivian shared a simple and generous demeanor and she dedicated her life to caring for others, including her family, friends, animals, and anyone in need.

Her life is summed up in missionary Jim Elliot’s quote, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”

She is survived by her children, June Blakely, Darrin and Kathleen Jones, Stacy Brown, Kathleen Gunby Johnson; and 12 grandchildren, Zebediah, Amanda, Autumn Star, Chelsea, Sylvia, Lindsey, Lauren, Allison, Blaine, Rebekah, Key and Lyric.  She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
