Neal “Jasper” Rousey

TAHLEQUAH — Services for Neal “Jasper” Rousey, 87, of Tahlequah are Saturday, May 4, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Quinnelly.

Pallbearers are: Blaine Johnson, Kevin Mullin, Jason Mullin, Hunter Daniels, Paul Corn and Ron Daniels.

Honorary pallbearer is Larrett Daniels. Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.

Neal Rousey was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Burbank, to Revella Elsie (Schauer) Rousey and Alva Michael Rousey. He passed away at his home on April 29, 2013.

In 1943, Neal graduated in Kaw City. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from Nov. 1943 to March of 1946.

After returning home he married Darlene McClintock, and shared 63 years of marriage.

Neal and Darlene owned and operated a nursing home in Newkirk, Oklahoma until moving to Tahlequah in 1955. He, along with his father, and brother-in-laws, owned and operated a Maytag appliance store until he began work at the post office. Neal retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1987.

After retirement he and Darlene traveled, and enjoyed gardening and family.

Darlene preceded him in death in 2011. Neal also follows two sisters in death, Maxine Brock and Marion Houston.

Survived by sons, Mike Rousey of Tahlequah, Steve Rousey and wife Sandra of Mannford; daughters, Melinda Corn and husband Paul of Princeton, Texas, and Melissa Rousey and husband Blaine Johnson of Tahlequah; sister, Lodean Kerr of North Carolina; and his brother, Jack Rousey and wife Barbara of Ponca City; numerous wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones who will greatly miss his humor and wisdom.
