Sarah Rosalie (Smith) Ragsdale

LOCUST GROVE — Sarah Rosalie (Smith) Ragsdale passed from this earth to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 11. She is joining her husband of 49 years, Joe, who preceded her in death in 2001. Sarah was born Nov. 16, 1926, to Tom and Mai (Carter) Smith in Tahlequah. She was the youngest of four children: Sonya, Gordon “Huck,” and Hope, all who have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jarod Moore.

She is survived by her three children, David Roberts and wife Colleen of Tulsa, Hope Roberts of Rose, and Joe Ragsdale and companion Diane Wheatley of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Audrey Moore, Jennifer Arnold, Ed Wofford, Lindsay Ragsdale, and Joey Ragsdale; seven great-grandchildren, Krystle Vaughan, Blake Moore, Keifer Arnold, Jensen Arnold, Jace Arnold, Morgan Wofford, and McKenna Wofford; and one great-great granddaughter, Riley Schrum.

Sarah was emblematic of her generation; strong in character, deep in faith, sturdy in work ethic, with an unwavering willingness to help others, especially those less fortunate than her. She had a strong sense of the value of education, and was constantly finding ways to help tutor and mentor others.

After Joe’s retirement, Sarah spent many years helping him cultivate the family farm in Rose. She had a special gift for growing flowers and a garden. She loved her grandchildren’s visits to the farm and the memories those visits generated. She also loved animals, especially those castaways that no one else wanted. God rewarded her with Usti, one of those castaways, to provide unconditional love and companionship.

Finally, special thanks are extended to her granddaughter Lindsay, who was her companion and caregiver the final two years of her life. They forged an eternal and special bond.

Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove. Rev. James Duffell and Rev. Mark Hester officiated. Interment followed at Elm Grove Cemetery in Rose. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home. You may leave thoughts, memories, or condolences at www.locustgrovefuneralhome.com.
