FORT GIBSON — Graveside services for Richard Gotfriet Griffin will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.

Richard G. Griffin was born July 6, 1950, in Tahlequah, Okla., to Louis M. Griffin and Lillian Dorothy (Bessinger) Griffin. He departed from this life on Aug. 31, 2013, from his home in Tahlequah.

Richard was a graduate of Tahlequah High School. He served two years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Corps from 1969 to 1971.

He married Debra Janene Waters at the United Methodist Church in Woodall. Janene was killed in an auto accident in 1985, and Richard never remarried.

He received his electrical technician degree from OSU Okmulgee Tech School.

Richard was known for his talent of making his own flies for fly fishing and was a member of the National Fly-Tying Association. He also did repairs on golf clubs.

Richard and his father owned and operated a general store in the Woodall area. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Janene; his parents; and a brother.

He is survived by his aunt, Irene Coultas, of Tahlequah; several cousins, special friends, and other extended family members.
