Barbara Helen (Smith) Page was born on Jan. 5, 1934, to Lenard “Bud” Smith and Mabel (Steelmon) Smith in Lost City, Okla. Helen passed at her home attended by her husband on Thursday, Nov. 21. She was 79 years old.

Helen graduated from high school in Tahlequah in 1954. She married Marvin Leon Page in 1955. He was a loyal spouse and caregiver through her illness. Helen worked at the Ozark Nursery for many years. Most of her working life she was a Northeastern State University employee, retiring after 30 years. It would be a fair wager to bet she was never late.

Helen spent her retirement collecting glassware, Fenton Hobnail and cut glass. Marvin and Helen drove many miles in search for the perfect piece. Her home was a tribute to her passion, with many displays of her glass. Helen never wanted to miss a garage sale. Gardening was a favorite pastime for Helen, and she was especially proud of her hybrid iris.

Divinity was a favorite homemade treat for the family and she fought with the squirrels yearly for the black walnuts and pecans. She also took pride in her cooking with homemade meringue and fruit pies being her specialty. Family was very important to her, and she spent her life guiding her family. Southside Baptist was church of choice, which she attended for many years.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her friend/first cousin, Phyllis Garroute.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin Page. To this union were born two children, Marvin Wayne Page, and wife Paula of Tahlequah, and Barbara Theresa Page-Hicks also of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Crystal Brook Hendricks and husband Chad, Michael Wayne Page and wife Annie, and Dustin Hicks; great grandchildren, Bryson, Natalie, and a baby on the way, Hudson and Hayden Hendricks; one sister, Mary Ellen Sanders and husband Jim of Locust Grove; and lifelong friend, Jeanie Gibson.
