George Thomas Dunavin, Jr.

TAHLEQUAH — George Thomas Dunavin Jr., 65, passed away on May 27, 2013. He was born in Tahlequah on July 8, 1947, to George T. and Marie Dunavin.

During his childhood in California, Tom was a Cub and Boy Scout, earning the “Order of the Arrow” award. He loved playing first base for Little League Baseball, and at age 11, Los Angeles Dodgers player Gil Hodges signed Tom’s glove.

The family moved to Texas before returning to Tahlequah, where he graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1965 and from OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee in 1967. Tom worked as a claims adjustor for Allstate Insurance Company, living in Dallas, Texas and Muskogee. Additionally, he worked alongside his dad as an independent contract adjustor for Farmers Insurance Group.He retired after 19 years as the Circulation Manager for the Tahlequah Daily Press. Tom truly enjoyed the game of golf, playing at every opportunity.

He is survived by his parents, George and Marie; sister, Connie Dunavin of Tahlequah; daughters, Tonia Brown and husband Jeff of Bixby, and Whitney Dunavin and Brittany Dunavin, both of Tahlequah; four grandsons, Zachary Etier, Joshua and Noah Brown, all of Bixby, and Peyton Davis of Tahlequah.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you for the excellent and compassionate care Tom received from the nursing staff and hospitalists while an inpatient at CNWWH Hospital.

A service is scheduled at the pavilion on Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m., in the Tahlequah City Cemetery.
