Georgia Sue Havens

TAHLEQUAH — Services for Sue Havens were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at Hart Funeral Home Chapel.

Georgia “Sue” Havens was born July 14, 1949 in Independence, Kan. Seven years later in 1956, the family moved to Tahlequah where she lived through high school and college. Havens graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1967 and received her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern in 1971.

Havens worked for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission in Oklahoma City for more than 30 years, retiring as the Director of Unemployment Insurance.

In 2006, Havens returned to Tahlequah and spent her retirement years as a volunteer in many local organizations in order to better life for people in the community. She was an officer for the Cherokee County Democratic Women and a board member of CASA.

Havens died Sunday, Dec. 29. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Helen Havens; and a sister, Kay H. Bailey. She is survived by her sisters, Jean Havens, Tahlequah and Shirley Cox, The Woodlands, Texas; a brother, Charley Havens of Rockwall, Texas; two nephews and nieces; two great nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to those organizations that were important to Sue: Humane Society of Cherokee County, P.O. Box 1354, Tahlequah, Okla., 74465; CASA of Cherokee Country, P.O. Box 1788, Tahlequah, Okla., 74465; Tahlequah Area Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1876, Tahlequah, Okla., 74465 and Cherokee County Federation of Democratic Women, P.O. Box 841, Tahlequah, Okla., 74465.
