Tahlequah Middle School guest authors

TAHLEQUAH — By earning first place in the Scholastic Corporation Middle School Book Fair Competition in 2012 and 2013, Tahlequah Middle School was visited by a couple of special guests.

In October 2012, TMS welcomed Roland Smith. His books for young readers are often about animals. He works include Tentacles, Peak, Jack’s Run, Zach’s Lie, the Cryptid Hunters series, the 39 Clues: Cahills vs. Vespers series and the Storm Runners series.

Most recently, TMS was visited by James Dashner. His books are often in the sci-fi and adventure genres. Those written for readers in their early teens include the Thirteenth Reality and Maze Runner series. The first Maze Runner book was on the New York Times Bestesller list for a year.

The TMS library’s Renaissance-themed book fair should be a strong entry for spring 2014. Should it win, the school will be visited by Maggie Stiefvater, who penned the Shiver trilogy, The Raven Boys and the second Spirit Animal book, Hunted.

Competition winners also receive cash awards. The TMS library received $2,000 for each of its contest wins, and $1,000 for each of its two second place finishes.
