Tigers to host 5A regional

— Tahlequah’s wrestling team will host a Class 5A regional wrestling tournament on Feb. 21-22. The Tahlequah Multipurpose Activity Center will be the East Regional with Del City hosting the West Regional.

Joining Tahlequah will be Bishop Kelley, Coweta, Deer Creek, Durant, Edison, Grove, McAlester, Pryor, Shawnee, Skiatook and reigning 5A champion Collinsville.

In 3A, Sequoyah, Keys and Hulbert will wrestle at the East Regional at Pawhuska. Barnsdall, Berryhill, Blackwell, Inola, Jay, Newkirk, Pawnee, Salina, Sperry, Tonkawa and Vian will also be in the field.

NSU events called off

After a 1-2 weekend in neutral-site competition in North Texas, Northeastern State’s softball team had its two games in Stephenville, Texas, on Monday canceled. The RiverHawks’ next game will now be Friday in Wichita Falls, Texas, against Southern Arkansas.

NSU’s women’s tennis team also had an event canceled, but it was for Tuesday’s matchup against Seminole State in Broken Arrow.

Oklahoma State to travel to No. 19 Texas

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State Cowboys are preparing for their first game without suspended All-American Marcus Smart.

The Cowboys travel to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 19 Texas on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Smart was suspended three games Sunday by the Big 12 for shoving a fan in the closing seconds of the Cowboys’ loss at Texas Tech on Saturday.

OSU is 16-7 overall this season and 4-6 in the Big 12 following a 65-61 loss at Texas Tech. Texas is 18-5 on the season and 7-3 in the conference after losing 74-57 at Kansas State on Saturday.

LSU signs DE Clark to 2014 class

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU says it has officially added defensive end Deondre Clark to its 2014 class of recruits.

Clark, who was a running back and defensive end in high school in Oklahoma City, was expected to join LSU when most schools announced their recruiting classes last Wednesday but did not sign his letter of intent until Monday.

Clark had 22 sacks for Douglass High School last season and also rushed for nearly 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was credited with 61 sacks during his high school career.

LSU coach Les Miles calls Clark a versatile player who fills a need for the Tigers and will “be able to come in and compete for playing time right away.”

Tulsa spring football dates set

TULSA — The University of Tulsa football team will begin spring practices on March 11.

Head coach Bill Blankenship announced Monday the schedule for spring practice. The first workout will begin at 3:30 p.m.

TU will have 15 practice days and the annual spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 19.
