Lamar-OSU football game to be televised

State briefs

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State University's home opening football game against Lamar is scheduled for television.

OSU says FOX College Sports will broadcast the Sept. 14 game nationally and Fox Sports Southwest/FS Oklahoma will show the game in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

OSU opens the season on Aug. 31 in Houston against Mississippi State with the game to be broadcast by ABC. The Cowboys then travel to San Antonio the following week to play Texas-San Antonio in a game that will be carried by FOX Sports Net.

3 former Sooners named to US gymnastics team

NORMAN — Three former University of Oklahoma gymnasts have been named to the six-member team that will compete for the United States at the World Championships in Belgium.

USA Gymnastics announced Monday that Jake Dalton, Steven Legendre and Alex Naddour will be part of the team for the Sept. 30-Oct. 6 championships in Antwerp.

This is the second World Championships appearance for both Naddour and Dalton and the fourth for Legendre.

Okla. St.'s Niebrugge named to US Walker Cup team

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State golfer Jordan Niebrugge has been named to the U.S. Walker Cup team that will compete against Great Britain and Ireland.

This is the 25th time OSU has had a golfer selected to the Walker Cup team.

Niebrugge is a Wisconsin native who was selected to the team after a summer in which he won the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the Wisconsin State Amateur, the Wisconsin Match Play Championship and the Western Amateur Championship.

The 44th Walker Cup Match is scheduled for Sept. 7-8 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y.

5 Tulsa men’s soccer players get preseason honors

TULSA — Members of the University of Tulsa’s men’s soccer team have picked up College Sports Madness Conference USA preseason honors.

Cristian Mata was named as the CSM C-USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Jake McGuire was selected as the CSM C-USA Preseason Freshman of the Year. In addition, Cristian Mata, Omar Mata, Stephen Roberson and Bryce Follensbee were all tabbed to the CSM C-USA preseason teams.

Cristian Mata, a sophomore forward, started in 19 of 20 games as a true freshman last season. He led the Golden Hurricane in goals (14), assists (6) and points (34), as well as the league in goals and points.

A freshman goalkeeper from Chino Hills, Calif., McGuire played club soccer for Chivas USA and the US Soccer Development Academy.
