Knight expected to start at QB for Sooners

NORMAN — Two sources told the Transcript Wednesday afternoon that redshirt freshman quarterback Trevor Knight has practiced exclusively with the first team since Monday and is expected to be the starter when the Sooners face Kansas State Saturday.

Whether or Knight having the job is based on his performance against Iowa State, or as the Oklahoman reported Wednesday, due to a concussion Blake Bell suffered against Iowa State, could not be confirmed.

The sources told the Transcript Bell has been at practice the last two days, but has not participated in scrimmages or drills.

Knight has taken all the first-team reps and sophomore Kendal Thompson had taken all the sceond-team snaps.

Earlier Wednesday, KOCO-TV reported senior running back Damien Williams and senior wide receiver Lacoltan Bester have both been suspended for the Kansas State game.

A source confirmed to the Transcript Wednesday afternoon that Williams had been suspended for a violation of team rules, but did not know what the violation was nor how long the suspension would be.

Two sources told the Transcript neither player had practiced since Monday.

Williams is the Sooners’ second-leading rusher this season with 553 yards and rushed for a season-high 123 in the Iowa State game. He has also rushed for a team-high seven touchdowns

This will be his second suspension of the season. He was held out of the Tulsa game on Sept. 14 due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Bester is the Sooners’ third-leading receiver with 20 catches for 279 yards. He has one touchdown reception and threw for another one earlier this year against Kansas.

OU coach Bob Stoops is scheduled to meet with reporters tonight for the final time this week. However, he said Monday that he would not give updates about the quarterback situation.
