For the record:
Oklahoma improved to 39-19 and advanced to the Big 12 tournament’s championship game with Saturday’s 7-6, 11-inning victory over Kansas State. The Wildcats dropped to 41-17.

Tale of two plays: The difference in the game came down to two balls hit to right field. OU took a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning on Garrett Carey’s three-run double. It was a sharply hit ball that got over Kansas State right fielder Jon Davis’ head. However, Davis started in on it before retreating.

In the eighth inning, Kansas State’s Shane Conlon smoked a line drive to the right-field warning track that OU’s Taylor Alspaugh ran down and made an over-the-shoulder grab that kept the Wildcats from scoring two runs.

“Taylor Alspaugh, how about that catch out there? I’m going to go back and watch it on the highlights. I didn’t see it. I got blocked. The ball was crushed. It was a game full of great, clutch college baseball players getting it done and we’re fortunate to have been a part of it,” OU coach Sunny Golloway said.

Pitching out of jams: The Wildcats had 17 hits Saturday, but few of them were of the clutch variety. They loaded the bases in the third, fourth and 11th innings and were a combined 1 for 8 with the bases loaded.

Pivotal switch: The game’s final out was Kansas State reserve catcher Alex Bee’s strikeout. Kansas State coach Brad Hill pinch-ran for catcher Blair DeBord in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Bee is now 2 for 17 this season with one RBI.

Scoreless streak ends: The run OU starter Jake Fisher allowed in the fourth inning ended OU’s scoreless inning that dated back to the ninth inning of its regular-season finale.

From then through the fourth inning Saturday, OU held Kansas State, Baylor and Texas Tech scoreless over 22 1/3 innings.

Winning in extra innings: The Sooners are now 6-1 in extra-inning games this season. All of the wins were against Big 12 opponents. The only loss was to Notre Dame on March 10 in Los Angeles.
