OU's Hornbeak out 4-6 weeks

NORMAN — Oklahoma suffered its first setback of the season Tuesday. Guard Je’lon Hornbeak suffered a broken bone in his left foot in practice and is expected to miss the next four to six weeks.

“We’re very disappointed for Je’lon,” OU coach Lon Kruger said in a statement. “He battled another injury to his foot in the preseason, and now this one. This will impact our team significantly while he is out.”

The injury will not require surgery.

Hornbeak, a sophomore, is averaging 5.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 21 minutes per game off the bench. He started 29 of 32 games last year as a freshman and averaged 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22.7 minutes per contest.

With the addition of point guard Jordan Woodard this season, Hornbeak had become the Sooners’ sixth man and back-up point guard.

Without him, sophomore guard Isaiah Cousins, who is averaging 11.2 points as a shooting guard, will become the No. 2 point guard as well.

OU (8-1) returns to the court at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center when it faces Tulsa.
