Sooners’ Cousins wounded by gunshot

Oklahoma guard Isaiah Cousins is recovering after he was struck by an errant gunshot Tuesday night near his in home White Plains, N.Y.

“I’ve spoken to Isaiah and he is doing well. It truly was a matter of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” OU coach Lon Kruger said in a statement. “He was simply talking to some friends when an outsider fired a shot. Everyone we’ve spoken to said they don’t believe anyone in his group was a target.”

The bullet hit Cousins in the shoulder. Kruger said the wound is not expected to require surgery.

“He should be healed in a few weeks and begin summer activities with the rest of the team in June. We’re very thankful it wasn’t worse than it was.”

Cousins averaged 11.0 points per game last season as a sophomore. He started all 33 games and shot 44.1 percent from the field.
