OU’s Woodard is Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma freshman guard Jordan Woodard has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

The conference announced the selection Monday after Woodard scored a career high 24 points and had five assists in OU’s 101-91 win over Tulsa on Saturday. Woodard scored 17 of his points from the free throw line.

Iowa State’s Georges Niang was named the conference player of the week.

OU improved to 9-1 with the win and will host Texas-Arlington on Tuesday at the Lloyd Noble Center before playing Texas A&M on Saturday in Houston as part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge.

Sooners to host UT-Arlington in men’s basketball

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma is set to host Texas-Arlington in men’s college basketball.

OU and UTA are to tip off at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

OU is 9-1 on the season after a 101-91 win over Tulsa on Saturday. UTA is 4-6 and has won two straight after beating Houston Baptist 80-70 on Sunday.
