Prosecutors have formally charged a local woman they claim has failed to follow sex-offender-registration requirements.
Denise Sue Watie, 40, is charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
According to Sheriff’s Investigator James Brown, Watie moved from an address on East 803 Road to a place on Parker Street inside Tahlequah’s city limits. Brown told Watie, who was convicted of sexually abusing a child in Tulsa County, she must register with Tahlequah detectives because of her address change.
Detective Jeff Haney later told Watie she could live not at the address she had moved to, but Watie told police they “didn’t have to worry about her,” according to Brown’s report.
Failure to register a sex offender is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
