Woman arrested for stealing relative’s ring

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Tahlequah woman Tuesday morning after she allegedly stole a family member’s ring.

Marlee D. Freeman, 28, was booked on charges of obstruction, knowingly concealing stolen property, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription.

Deputies Jarrick Snyder and Raymond Hendricks responded to a disturbance and spoke to Terry Jones. She told them she was awakened during the night by Freeman, who was going through Jones’ property. Jones said she then noticed a ring missing.

Freeman allegedly allowed deputies to look in her purse and clothing to prove she didn’t have the missing ring.

Hendricks said he looked inside Freeman’s jacket and found an envelope that contained one of Jones’ missing rings. Freeman claimed another family member had given it to her, but deputies contacted that family member and she denied she had done so. Deputies said Jones also had paperwork that seemed to support her claim of ownership.

Deputies said Freeman was also charged with possession of a CDS because she had pills and a pill bottle with another person’s name.
