Man jailed after hitting woman with tire iron

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Tahlequah man over the weekend after he allegedly threw a tire iron that hit a pregnant woman in the stomach.

Adam Austin, 27, was booked into jail for domestic assault and battery and malicious injury to property. Authorities were sent to the Briggs area Sunday to check on a domestic situation. When deputies arrived, Austin had a tire iron in his back pocket. A woman told deputies she and Austin began to argue in a vehicle, and Austin grabbed a tire iron and began breaking all the windows, headlights and taillights while she was still inside the car. While he was breaking the windows, Austin allegedly threw the tire iron through a broken window, and the iron struck the woman – who is eight months pregnant – in the abdomen.
