Man arrested after allegedly attacking pregnant woman

TAHLEQUAH — Officers with the Tahlequah Police Department arrested a 28-year-old man Saturday after he allegedly attacked a pregnant woman.

Officers Tyler Trammel and Steve Smith responded Saturday night to the 100 block of East Ross. According to Trammel, the woman who opened the door for police had a bloody lip and redness around her neck.

Police said Aaron Owl, of Tahlequah, was standing behind her, and when they tried to enter the home, Owl slammed the door on Trammel’s right leg and began pushing the door shut.

Smith and Trammel later entered the home and had to fight with Owl before taking him into custody, according to Trammel’s arrest affidavit.

The alleged victim told police she is seven months pregnant and was trying to get away from Owl because he was intoxicated. She said she went into the kitchen and sat down when Owl began staring at her and became angry because she would not look at him.

Owl then allegedly pushed the chair the woman was in, opened the refrigerator door and began slamming it.

He then allegedly removed a tray from the refrigerator and threw it toward the victim’s head, but the tray instead broke a window.

Trammel’s affidavit says Owl then placed his hand over the woman’s mouth and nose and held her down on a bed. He eventually began to choke her, police reported.

An ambulance was called to check on the alleged victim.

Owl was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center for domestic assault and battery by strangulation.

He was released Monday on a $10,000 bond, booking records show.
