Sheriff's Beat: Woman arrested after calling 911 for a ride

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a local woman last week after she allegedly called 911 to ask for a ride.

Velna Vanbuskirk, 48, of Hulbert, was booked into jail for using 911 for a non-emergency and for possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription.

In other matters, Kimberly Dawn Sparks, 22, was arrested last week for destruction of private property after she allegedly threw a concrete trowel through a window.

Don Qualls filed a theft report Thursday.

Paul Newberry told deputies last week that a gun rack and three firearms were stolen.

Scott Hobbs reported the theft of an air compressor and other items recently.
