TAHLEQUAH — A Tahlequah man was arrested by police June 6 on complaints of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license and no insurance. John Bruce Stromp, 45, was reported to have crashed his 1996 silver four-door Buick into a drainage ditch near the intersection of Crafton and the bypass.

A witness told police Stromp made it out of his car and was talking with the witness before leaving the scene. Stromp tried to elude police by crawling through a drainage tin horn before exiting and trying to run away on foot. He was caught and brought back to the scene, and was said to have slurred speech, blood-shot eyes and was very unsteady on his feet.

During a check of Stromp’s driving record, it was discovered that he had several DUI arrests, with the last taking place on March of this year.
