False report leads to pot bust

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies say a 21-year-old Tahlequah man was arrested for possession of marijuana after he called dispatchers to claim he had been held against his will.

Shane Adam Rose met Deputy Bryan Qualls at Garden Walk Apartments Saturday after Rose called dispatchers. When Qualls arrived, Rose said it was a “false alarm.”

According to Qualls, Rose claimed he had been smoking methamphetamine, and at one point, other people had convinced him he was being held against his will. Rose said those unidentified people left before Qualls arrived, and again told the deputy it was all a “big misunderstanding.” Qualls observed Rose continually placing his hands inside his jacket pocket. Qualls later learned Rose had marijuana in there, but Rose told officers he didn’t know it was there.

Rose was booked into jail for the marijuana and later released on a $1,000 bond.
