Sheriff's Beat: Animal abuse reported

TAHLEQUAH — Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday investigated a report of animal abuse. According to reports, Misty Seymour said her dog was shot by a neighbor.

Deputies arrived at the home near Welling, and made contact with several people, including Seymour, who said they had heard a gunshot north of the residence, then saw a black-and-tan hound mix, Seymour’s dog, come running up whining, with blood running from its head. Seymour showed deputies a copy of the paperwork indicated the dog is a service animal.

Deputies then made contact with Robert Wright, the neighbor, who admitted shooting the dog. Wright said he arrived home to find the dog on his back porch, then the dog bit him. He said he then got his 12-gauge shotgun from the house and shot the dog. Deputies asked Wright if the dog had made any marks, and Wright said it hadn’t because Wright was wearing boots and pants. He then showed deputies the leg, which had no marks. Deputies then took a bite report, asked Wright if he needed treatment, which he declined.  The dog was taken to a Siloam Springs veterinarian for treatment.

In other matters, Alan Aguayo on Tuesday reported the theft of a Bond Arms 45 Long Colt Derringer.

Wednesday, two boys reported the theft of several items from a pickup while they were fishing near War Eagle. The pair said they saw a couple of females near the area. Items reported missing included a bag of chips, $40 from a wallet, a pair of gray Vans shoes and a HTC One cellphone. The owner of the cell phone said he’d called the phone a couple of times and females had answered, but he was unable to identify them.
