TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Tahlequah man Monday night after he allegedly assaulted another man and left the scene.

Trent Mauldin, 28, was booked into jail for aggravated assault and battery, driving under the influence second or subsequent, driving under revocation and no seat belt.

Deputies allege Mauldin assaulted a man east of Tahlequah and left before authorities and an ambulance arrived. Deputy Bob Lewandowski responded to the assault call.

Deputy Daniel Pruitt and others began searching the area for Mauldin and eventually stopped the suspect near Lane School Road and North 752 Road. Mauldin smelled of alcohol and could not keep his balance, Pruitt said.

Mauldin also had an outstanding warrant and a revoked driver’s license. He allegedly admitted to drinking four beers before driving.

Deputies said Mauldin admitted he had thrown a man down, kicked him, and then left him.

According to a report of Mauldin’s arrest, the victim of the assault had to be flown by medical helicopter to Tulsa after suffering “severe injuries.”
