Traffic stop reveals bag of marijuana

TAHLEQUAH — A Tahlequah man was jailed Thursday night after a traffic stop led police to a bag of marijuana.

Theophilus Mollie, 26, was booked into jail for possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a valid prescription.

Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, and Mollie was a passenger. Officers said Mollie stared straight ahead and wouldn’t look them in the eye when the vehicle was first stopped. They eventually learned Mollie was being sought for warrants out of Cherokee County.

Police asked the driver for permission to search the car, and she approved. During the search, officers found a bag of marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver told police she didn’t know about the marijuana, and said she had taken Mollie to a location on Choctaw, where Mollie went into a residence and later got back into the car.

Mollie denied ownership of the marijuana, but allegedly told police he would claim it. Police said Mollie had hydrocodone pills in his pockets. He was arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
