Police Beat: Officers log shoplifting and DUI arrests


TAHLEQUAH — Officers of the Tahlequah Police Department made a number of arrests Thursday and early Friday on charges related to alcohol and shoplifting.

Sharmayne Perez, 23, Kelly Pritchett, 23, and Michael Kawaykla, 31, were placed under arrest after a traffic stop at East Shawnee Street and Bluff Avenue on Friday. The three were booked at the TPD on charges of DUI and public intoxication. The report did not specify which person was driving.

Police stopped a vehicle for driving without lights on East Downing Street at Pizza Hut and arrested Zachary Vann, 21, of Inola for DUI. Four passengers were also arrested: Ty Rainey, 21, of Catoosa; Kylee R. Cole, 22, of Collinsville; Corbin Sarten, 21, of Tulsa; and Megan Robinson 21, of Broken Arrow.

On Thursday, Shawn E. Wagnon, 39, of Jay, and a juvenile were taken into custody after apprehension by asset protection at the Walmart Superstore at 2020 S. Muskogee Ave. Both were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting.

Police investigated a report of a daytime burglary of a residence on Thursday in the 600 block of Pamela Street.

Tyler W. Dunigan, 23, of Greenwood, Ark., was taken into custody and charged at the Tahlequah City Jail with petit larceny. Dunigan, suspected of shoplifting, was detained at the Walmart Supercenter on Thursday.

Police responded to a report on Thursday of two shoplifters in a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. Shianne Hooper, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting. Police reported the recovery of $45 worth of merchandise after the suspects consented to a search of the vehicle.

A man entered the police station Thursday to report a stolen backpack containing an MP3 player, Xbox games and prescriptions.

Police took a larceny complaint on Thursday from a man who claimed break-ins to two vehicles and the theft of a Sig Sauer P226, two Timex watches and two diamond rings.

Also on Thursday, police arrested Matthew Reed, 20, for alleged drug possession after a traffic stop for a defective tail lamp. Police report using the K9 unit during the stop.

On Wednesday, James D. Shrum, 44, was arrested by police on allegations of DUI, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of two accidents involving property damage.

On Sunday, police investigated a report of a hit-and-run in which a woman claimed a truck passed her on Southridge Road, stopped, backed into her and drove away.

Police reported that a man gave false information Saturday to avoid prosecution during an arrest for alleged public intoxication.
