Following a traffic stop, a man was arrested Sunday by a deputy of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy Josh Girdner arrested Matthew Girty, 40, in the parking lot of the Log Store at Highway 82 and Beaverson Road. Girdner reported following Girty’s vehicle into the lot and seeing Girty switch places with a woman in the passenger seat. Girty allegedly smelled of alcohol, and believing Girty was the driver, Girdner arrested him. While speaking with the passenger, Girdner noticed two children in the back seat. After transport to the Cherokee County Detention Center, Girty was booked on charges of DUI, no driver’s license and child endangerment. Girty refused a breathalyzer test, and he allegedly threatened the officer.
On Saturday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary on North Oaks Road. A man reported the theft of a 2004 Bombardier ATV, a Polaris Ranger 800, a Hyundai HCP 9100 air compressor, a Husqvarna 55.5 cc 20-inch chainsaw, a 12-gauge turkey gun, a DVD player and hunting and fishing gear.
A woman told deputies Friday a man and woman entered her home while she was in her bed. The victim claimed to know the suspects, and alleged they stole two TVs and two DVD players a few days earlier. The woman demanded belongings, which the victim claimed were not there. The woman then allegedly struck the victim with a folding chair. Deputies said the woman had a bleeding cut above her right eye and a red mark on her forehead. She refused medical attention.
Donna Sue Puckett of Wagoner was arrested Friday for alleged DUI and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Deputy Brian Qualls said while he provided civil standby for a man, Puckett pulled behind his vehicle and asked him not to arrest the man. Qualls told Puckett the man was not being arrested. While being arrested, Puckett advised Qualls of a .38 Special in her purse in the passenger seat and said she held a carry permit. Qualls’ report states Puckett’s breathalyzer test at CDCC read 0.11.
Deputies investigated an alleged breaking and entering at a residence on West 790 Road. A man reported the theft of a single shot breach-loading 20-gauge, a 31-by-25 inch Sanyo TV, an Xbox 360, a gold nugget wristwatch in a purple velvet case and a diamond. The loss is estimated at $1,000.
A woman said Friday she had received threats from a neighbor who was physically abusing his wife and daughter.
A Locust Grove woman on Friday reported the location of a dump trailer stolen Nov. 17. The trailer was seen at J&R Automotive and Tire on Highway 51 in the possession of a Welling man. The man produced a bill of sale, claiming he purchased the trailer in Stilwell from a Hulbert man, whom deputies consider a suspect. The trailer was returned to the woman.
Deputies responded Friday to a man assaulting another man at Brewdog’s Pub on Highway 51.
Updating an earlier burglary complaint, a Fort Gibson man contacted the sheriff’s department Friday to report receiving a text from a suspect.
On Dec. 14, a man reported the theft of a stove from his residence on Green Country Drive, and named a suspect.
