Man found guilty of assault, reckless conduct

TAHLEQUAH — Jurors on Tuesday found a local man guilty of simple assault and battery and reckless conduct with a firearm.

Aaron Bayless, 45, was originally charged with a felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, but jurors found him not guilty and reduced his charge to simple assault and battery.

They recommended Bayless serve 30 days in jail with credit for time served; and that he also pay a $500 fine for reckless conduct with a firearm.

Bayless was arrested Jan. 13, 2013, after he allegedly pulled a gun and fired multiple shots into the ground, trying to scare people away during a domestic disturbance. Prosecutors alleged Bayless also assaulted a woman with the gun by hitting her in the head.
