Man nabbed at checkpoint

TAHLEQUAH — Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Wednesday evening at a safety checkpoint near Oakdale and Briggs Flatt Road.

Jason Summers, 28, was booked for driving under the influence and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Deputy Dexter Scott said he contacted Summers and smelled alcohol coming from Summers’ Jeep Wrangler. Summers had slurred speech and allegedly admitted to drinking four beers. He was later tested and officers determined his alcohol content to be .12 and .13 in separate tests. Summers also allegedly had four clonazepam pills – commonly prescribed for epilepsy and panic disorder – for which he said  he  did  not  have   a prescription.

 Deputies took a report Wednesday about vandalism to apartments at Garden Walk Apartments. The manager at the apartments said doors, windows and other items were damaged.

Jose Gonzalez-Guillen told deputies this week he received a letter about an unpaid Walmart credit card, which he said he never applied for.

Alyssa Clubb spoke to deputies Wednesday about recently receiving two harassing phone calls from an unidentified person.

Tabitha Church filed a break-in report recently.

Megan Smith told deputies a suspect broke into her residence and stole three coin banks with hundreds of dollars in change.
