Kids found wandering

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies took a report over the weekend after two small children were found wandering around at Garden Walk Apartments.

A caller told deputies the two children – later determined to be about 1-1/2 years old and 3 years old – were roaming parking lots unattended. Deputies contacted the mother, who said she was up most of the night and had accidentally fallen asleep. Deputies said the children were likely left alone for an hour or more. The case information was turned over for investigation by the state.

In other matters, Robert Luke spoke to deputies Saturday about the theft of a large amount of foam that had recently been installed at a dock at Woodhaven Cove. Luke said he believes the foam had to be tied up and hauled away because of the size and amount of it.

Kimberly Beason spoke to deputies Sunday about vandals cutting a fence. Beason said she noticed a vehicle in the area that was being driven by a suspect she believes stole two of her all-terrain vehicles a month ago.

Athena Bailey told deputies Saturday an intruder broke into her late mother’s home, and a number of items were taken – including a washer and dryer, refrigerator, clothes, toys, lawn mowers, and tools.

Misty Golden reported nearly 400 feet of electric fence being stolen Saturday. Golden said she was recently involved in an argument with her neighbor over the fence, because she was going to move it to keep children and pets safe. Deputies said they spoke to the neighbor, who was “very defensive and rude,” and told them she didn’t know what happened to Golden’s fence.
