Man jailed for assaulting woman, stealing dog

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police officers arrested a Tahlequah man Thursday morning after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stole her dog.

Earl Max Travis, 26, was booked into jail for domestic assault and battery. Travis allegedly went to the home of Melanie Legier, went to the back yard and took her dog. When Legier tried to stop Travis, he allegedly grabbed her by the neck and pinned her against a vehicle. Travis left with the dog, and officers later found the car at a residence on Bluff Avenue. Travis was arrested and Legier’s dog was returned to her.

In other matters, police responded to a crash Thursday afternoon on Vinita Street. Police said a vehicle crashed into a guardrail. The driver and passenger were taken from the scene by ambulance, and the driver received a citation.

Buzzy Duvall told police this week the windshield of her truck was struck two times with a baseball bat. Witnesses said they saw a man using the bat to hit the windshield.

Doris Gourd reported the theft of medication Wednesday.
