Woman arrested for assaulting man with stick

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Chouteau woman this week for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Tonya Denise Carter, 36, allegedly used a stick to hit a man in the hand. Carter told deputies she used the stick while trying to protect herself from the man she struck, though she first denied she had even seen the man in several days, deputies said.

Deputies arrested Luis Santana, 34, this week after responded to a domestic assault, but Santana escaped from the patrol unit and fled while still handcuffed. Deputies said Santana jumped a fence and went into a wooded area.

In other matters, deputies spoke to Patrick Kirk this week after he learned his truck had been sold to a scrap yard for $390. Kirk told deputies he had allowed a friend to use the truck, and the friend later admitted he needed the money that was paid for the truck.

Dena Leach filed a theft report this week, telling deputies two heat and air units were stolen.

Samantha Booth reported medication stolen Tuesday.

Perry Blankenship filed an information report Tuesday.

Linda Handle reported the theft of medication this week.

Kenneth Cooper spoke with deputies this week about cattle running loose.
