Woman arrested after tossing tip jar

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police arrested a local woman Saturday after she allegedly threw a tip jar at a Ned’s employee.

Mikki Crawford, 27, was booked into jail for public intoxication and obstruction. Employees of Ned’s told Officer Pam Bell they refused service to Crawford because she was intoxicated, and Crawford became angry, picked up a tip jar from the bar, and threw it at Ned’s employee David Mead. The jar hit Mead in the face.

Mead told police he did not want to press charges for the alleged assault but wanted Crawford removed from the property.

Bell spoke to Crawford outside the bar and placed her under arrest. As Crawford was being booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, she allegedly grabbed a cigarette from a package and was told to put it down.

“Mikki continued to place the cigarette in between her lips and reached for a lighter,” Bell said in her arrest affidavit. “I told her again to put the cigarette down, but instead she ignored my lawful command and attempted to light it. I grabbed the cigarette from between her lips, at which time she called me a b---- and attempted to hit me by swinging her arm and hand towards me.”

Bell said she was able to avoid Crawford’s arm, and Crawford was then placed into a restraint chair at the jail.
