TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies took a report this week after a woman reported her Temporary Assistance for Needy Families card stolen.

The victim told deputies she checked her mail and found the envelope for her TANF card had been opened, and the card was gone. She contacted customer-service representatives about the card and learned it had been used to withdraw $84 at the Cherokee Casino.

In other matters, deputies took a burglary report this week after a woman awoke around 4 a.m. and found a former home healthcare worker in her house, near the place where she stores her medications. The victim reported the burglary to a current healthcare provider, who then contacted deputies. The victim reportedly talked with the suspect and told him not to do it again, but didn’t call the police because she considered him a “young man” and didn’t want him to get in trouble.

Erica McGregor filed an information report this week.

Michael Chambers spoke with deputies about a lost wallet Tuesday.
