DA responds to review request

TAHLEQUAH — Prosecutors are asking a judge to deny the request for a sentence modification from a mother serving 17 years in prison.

Jodi Leann Rock, 21, asked for a judicial review last week. Rock was sentenced to 17 years in prison as part of a no-contest plea last year. Prosecutors allege Rock burned her 14-month-old baby’s genitals and legs with a flat iron used to straighten hair.

Assistant District Attorney Doug Dry responded to Rock’s request on Thursday. In the response, prosecutors point out Rock was sentenced as part of a plea agreement, and state statutes would require consent of the DA before a sentence modification.

Prosecutors object to Rock’s request and do not consent to any review or modification of the sentence.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Rock is serving her sentence at the Mabel Basset Correctional Center in McLoud.
