Traffic stop leads to DUI, open container charges for Keys man

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police arrested a man last week after a traffic stop.

Billy Gene Ingram, 34, of Keys, was booked for driving under the influence, resisting arrest, transporting an open container, and operating vehicle in manor not reasonable and proper.

Tahlequah Officer Brandon Vick said he noticed Ingram’s truck sliding as it turned, nearly striking other vehicles. Ingram was allegedly spinning his tires, creating smoke as he drove.

Vick stopped Ingram, who smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Vick said Ingram sat in his vehicle, talking to himself, as the officer spoke with dispatchers.

Ingram later gave officers consent to search his vehicle, and Vick discovered an open, half-pint of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey behind the front seat.

When Ingram performed “poorly” on sobriety tests, Vick told him he would be arrested. Ingram allegedly began to resist, and other officers had to assist Vick.

Officers eventually deployed a Taser on Ingram and were able to place him in handcuffs. Vick said Ingram then began to threat each officer at the scene, telling them he “better not see us off duty [because] he will get his revenge on us and take us out.”

Ingram began to kick at the rear window when he was placed inside a patrol car. He later refused to take a state breath test.

Booking records show Ingram received a $2,500 bond for the DUI charge, and smaller bonds for each of the other accusations.
