Insult, retaliation end with area man jailed

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Tahlequah man Thursday after he allegedly assaulted another man who made insults toward the suspect’s family.

Rocky Ray Watts, 33, was booked for assault and battery. Watts was driving the victim home when, during the ride, the victim made certain statements about Watts’ family, according to an arrest report. Watts told deputies an argument followed, and after Watts had dropped the victim off, he decided to return to the man’s house. The victim told deputies Watts struck him in the head twice and left. Watts told deputies the victim swung at him.

Deputies took a report from Ella Casady on Thursday about an Internet scam. Casady told deputies she tried to sell wheels and tires on Craigslist and came to an agreement with a man, who later sent her a check for more then $2,500 – though she was only selling the tires for $650. Casady said the so-called buyer asked her to cash the check, keep her part, and send the balance back to him. She checked on the account and learned it was a fraudulent check.

Jana Taylor spoke with deputies Thursday about the theft of an exterior air unit. Taylor said the unit was stolen sometime between 2 and 10 p.m. Wednesday. The unit is a faded-green color, according to deputies.
